Lyrics
(I am the question the cosmos posed to itself,
A thought left out on a dissolving shelf.
Not gone, not whole, not living, not dead —
The space between what was, and what's ahead...)
VERSE 1
I stood in the mirror and nobody came,
The face looking back wore, a borrowed name.
The self that was, BURNED clean to the ground,
Now the one standing here, makes no sound.
Not haunting the halls of a life that was known,
But haunting the walls of a self far outgrown.
I know that I'm real — I can measure and prove —
But existing and living aren't always together wove.
PRE-CHORUS
I'm the same stuff as the stars that died to make me,
Every atom accounted for, the universe won't waste me.
I haven't left the system — I can't, there's nowhere else —
I am a new arrangement, trying to reintroduce itself.
CHORUS
Everything I've loved exists in my bones,
Every grief I carry, built walls I try to call my own.
The one who came before me, didn't vanish, didn't leave —
They're the lungs I breathe with, they affect what I now believe.
I am the sum of every self that has come and gone,
A ghost who knows it's matter, still somehow carrying on.
I exist inside a universe that made me what I am —
Not lost, not found, but present — this ghost tries to understand.
VERSE 2
There's no word in this language for what I've become,
No box on a form, no familiar drum.
The maps that surround me were drawn for a road,
That doesn't run through the terrain that I've known.
They hand me a story that doesn't quite fit,
A costume cut clean, for a different script.
I wear these masks, trying to not burst at its seams,
I find I'm more complex than anyone's dreams.
BRIDGE
If you've stood in a self that no longer responds,
If you've searched for your name, and come back with the wrong one —
You're not the mistake, you are not an error code,
You're a universe mapping a brand new road.
Every version of one that you've had to release,
Is a star that collapsed so that new life could breathe.
You are not what was lost, you are not what you lack —
You are everything forward, not everything back.
FINAL CHORUS
Everything I've loved exists in my bones,
Every grief I carry built walls, I try to call my own.
The one who came before me didn't vanish, didn't leave —
They're the lungs I breathe with, they affect what I now believe.
I am the universe observing its own face,
A ghost with mass and matter, trying to hold its own space.
I don't need to stop dissolving to prove that I am real —
I am here, collecting myself, I find I am everything I feel!
OUTRO
Now I move through this world, like light moves through glass —
Bending, refracting, present as I pass.
Not a haunting, an ending or a door swung shut, just insistence —
As this universe, still learns how to accept its existence!
